A long recognized leading Trusts and Estates firms in the New York metropolitan area for more than 60 years is seeking a Fiduciary Accountant for it’s midtown office.
Manage caseload in a professional and timely manner under attorney supervision.
In consultation with attorneys, consider substantive issues such as possible disclaimers; distribution and funding matters; tax implications and planning option; conflicts; etc.
Obtain and organize estate asset information through contact with clients, attorneys, accountants, title companies, brokerage firms, financial institutions, institutions, appraisers, etc.
Prepare estate and trust accountings using approved court schedules, and asset distribution schedules. Utilize online research and various probate and tax software programs to identify assets and obtain valuations; prepare inventory schedules.
Administers trusts, including tax planning trusts, including preparing illustrations for allocation of assets. Maintains trust and estate administration schedule. Prepares valuation/present value calculations, allocation and performs various financial analyses using Excel spreadsheets or other programs.
Attends professional seminars, reads various probate and tax publications and participates in Department meetings in order to address continuing education concerns. Additional duties as assigned.
Tax-Related Focus – Federal & States (as necessary.)
Prepares estate tax returns and gift tax returns, and works directly with clients and their accountants in connection with this work – 1040, 1041, 9900 Income Tax Returns and Accountings. Monitors estate tax, gift tax and income tax filing deadlines. Reviews and analyzes clients’ estate planning options with respect to tax law and other tax-related issues, projects tax impacts; Makes recommendations for attorneys’ consideration in providing legal advice. Independently researches and reviews changes in tax law (statutory and significant case law;) maintains a high level of knowledge of the current state of the law and proposed changes; acting as a resource to attorneys regarding tax matters. Remains current on new and revised relevant tax laws.
Accurately and completely records billable time spent and tasks performed in accordance with firm policy and client-imposed billing protocols; enters and releases time promptly in compliance with the firm’s announced deadlines. Accurately and promptly submits records of hours worked in compliance with the firm’s established deadlines. Accepts and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assists attorneys in review of monthly billing reports and issuance of invoices for legal services
Maintenance of all OneSource/Thomson Reuters programs (installation and updates of all programs.)
