A leading full service mid-size law firm is seeking a HR Generalist for the NY office.The HR Generalist, under the leadership of the Director of Human Resources, will work with HR department team members and other groups throughout the Firm to coordinate general human resources activities in the New York office.
Primary duties include assisting in handling sensitive employee relations matters, conducting benefits orientation, answering payroll and benefits-related questions, on-boarding/off-boarding of employees, and assisting employees with leave of absences. Additionally, will support recruiting activities, conduct new hire orientation, and perform other activities related to the general administration of the HR department. Ideal candidates will be extremely articulate, professional and highly organized with stellar verbal and written communication skills.
Works with Director of HR to ensure Firm policies and procedures are applied consistently and fairly.
Conducts a substantial amount of research, analysis and reporting in addition to daily tasks.
Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries related to benefits, recruiting and payroll.
Manages open enrollment for medical, dental, vision, life. STD, LTD, 401k and other health and welfare benefits, process all benefits enrollment paperwork, conduct benefits orientation for new hires.
Assist with full cycle recruitment, including sourcing resumes, phone screens, initial interviews, reference and background checks, conducting new hire orientations.
Review and approve staff timecards, maintain time and attendance system, coordinate/prepare items for payroll.
Track vacation/absences, approve time off requests ensuring proper workload coverage.
Supervises legal intern program, including recruiting, training, mentoring and participating in performance evaluations.
Assist with Firm Events including: Summer and Holiday parties, Staff Appreciation Week, monthly firm lunches, Chase Corporate Challenge, Summer Enrichment Program and CPR/AED training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
3-5 years of human resources experience, preferably within a law firm
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in HR or a related field
Excellent client service, interpersonal and communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail and follow-through is a must; performs tasks with high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and competing deadlines
Ability to handle personnel matters and difficult situations with poise, tact and to maintain confidentiality at all times and exhibit good judgment
Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
