Job Description:
The Trust and Estates Paralegal will work with our Trusts and Estates practice group to assist with estate and trust administration and IRS and state agency filings.
Paralegal Duties:
Preparing and filing probate forms in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and dealing with Surrogate’s Court personnel.
Arranging for the valuation of assets.
Opening and closing estate and trust accounts.
Arranging for estate and trust distributions and bill payments.
Preparing estate and gift tax returns and accountings.
Projections in advanced excel spreadsheets.
Drafting receipts and releases.
Drafting cover letters.
Tracking due dates in estate and trust matters.
Filing entity formation documents in Delaware.
Attending execution of wills and trust documents.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least two years of paralegal experience is required; experience working for a law firm is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess excellent proofing and communication (oral and written) skills; the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; a very strong attention to detail; and a professional demeanor.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely and build relationships with lawyers, clients and staff to achieve results. Requires a high level of collaboration with attorneys and staff and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and using the internet is a must. Working knowledge of iManage or other filing databases and web technology would be beneficial.
