Seeking a Business Development Coordinator for a large prestigious international law firm.

Our client’s New York office is seeking a Business Development Coordinator to support the Firm’s corporate Practice Intelligence initiatives (M&A/Private Equity, Debt Finance, Capital Markets, among others) and work effectively as part of the overall business development team. Practice Intelligence focuses on the collection and curation of the Firm’s case and deal experience. This position reports directly to the Director of Corporate Development in New York and works closely with the Associate Directors of Corporate and Practice Intelligence in the Firm’s Chicago office.

You will serve as a valuable resource to the firmwide transactional business development team and be responsible for the research, collection, entry and maintenance of historical and current transactional experience, beginning with M&A/Private Equity, for inclusion in the Firm’s experience database. You will also play a key role in drafting manuals, defining terms and developing training and resource materials as it relates to the database. In essence, you will be shaping the Firm’s experience tracking as it evolves.

There will be a strong focus on the research and analysis of press releases, news items, deal documents and information from a variety internal and external market intelligence platforms, including Bloomberg, Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, Thomson LPC, Preqin, Manzama, The Deal Pipeline, Pitchbook and Corporate Affiliations. You will be comfortable in an internal database environment and be able to understand the elements of an M&A transaction and distinguish among various types of transactions as well as have the ability to simply (and concisely) convey complex information.

You will communicate, collaborate and interact daily with nearly 100 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the broader business development, marketing and communications efforts of the Firm as well as the Firm’s attorneys;

Engage in thoughtful, comprehensive research of the Firm’s transactions across a wide breadth of industries, geographies and transaction types using a variety of internal and external resources, including Bloomberg, The Deal Pipeline, CapIQ, Pitchbook, Deal Point Data, PrivateRaise, Preqin, ThomsonOne, Corporate Affiliations and others;

Accurately capture and maintain comprehensive transaction deals in the Firm’s experience database;

Collaborate with other members of the practice intelligence team to refine and improve the existing database;

Create manuals and resource materials for the experience database, outlining best practices for researching and recording transactions as well as helping to develop definitions and taxonomies with an eye toward consistency of content;

Provide research, coordination and other logistical assistance in connection with the origination and execution of new business pitches and related client development meetings and activities
Refine and curate core materials related to specific industries, practice descriptions and representative experience;

Summarize announced M&A/private equity transactions by industry on a weekly basis;

Gain a thorough knowledge of internal system and external databases;

Handle other requests or projects on an as needed basis;

Provide support to other members of the department as necessary;

Qualifications & Requirements:

The successful candidate will possess outstanding communication skills (oral and written), enjoy research and have the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with meticulous attention to detail and a professional demeanor. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. The firm demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize effectively. A history of taking initiative is essential to success in this position.

You must have strong project management skills, exceptional business acumen, and a strong ability to identify and understand marketplace trends. You will be required to handle ambiguity, influence others and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results. The position demands meticulous writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software.

A Bachelor’s degree is required and an ideal candidate will have at least three years of professional experience and a background in M&A/private equity are preferred. Law firm, corporate finance, research analyst and investment banking experience are a plus.

Technologies/Software:

Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint. Proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel is required.

Experience with various market intelligence platforms, including but not limited to Bloomberg, Capital IQ, ThomsonOne, Pitchbook, LPC, Preqin, Manzama, The Deal Pipeline, and Corporate Affiliations is required.

CRM/Database Software (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot, etc.) experience is a plus.
