Our client, a premier mid-sized law firm, seeks an experienced Director of Human Resources to head their Human Resources Department in New York City. This role will be responsible for day-to-day procedures which include planning and managing human resource programs; staff recruiting, onboarding and retention; employee relations and engagement; talent management; and leading organizational strategies to support business goals and objectives.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
•Annually reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the firm’s policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
•Responsible for compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters in New York and California.
•Communicates changes in the firm’s personnel policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed.
•Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the firm’s wage and salary program.
•Conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
•Consults with legal counsel, as appropriate, on employee relations matters.
•Deals with grievances and violations invoking disciplinary action when required.
•Works directly with department managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.
•Grievance resolution.
•Oversees the firm’s non-legal staff recruitment, interview, selection and hiring processes. Responsible for ensuring recruiting efforts comply with state and federal laws.
•Manages the firm’s self-service human resource information system that meets the firm’s personnel information needs and legal record keeping requirements.
•Develops financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating operational requirements.
•Supervises the Human Resources Department’s staff, all secretaries and the Word Processing Center.
•Administers the firm’s High School Work-Study program during the school year and supervises students during summer work.
•Participates in other projects as assigned by executive management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field is preferred. SPHR or SHRM-SCP is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of ten years of related experience in human resource management in the legal industry.
Skills and Abilities:
Proven experience as Director of Human Resources. Thorough knowledge of human resources management best practices and principals. Hands-on experience in all aspects of human resource management. Superb knowledge of employment legislation and regulations. Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Able to effectively interact and communicate professionally with employees and attorneys at all levels.
Computer Skills:
Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of iManage is a plus.
