The New York office is seeking a Trusts & Estates Paralegal who will assist with estate planning and the administration of estates and trusts from beginning to end.
Responsibilities include:
•Corresponding with clients requesting gift information and monitoring the status of gift tax returns; preparing gift tax returns
•Preparing life insurance forms transferring ownership and changing beneficiaries of life insurance policies
•Assisting in all phases of the estate administration process from the collection of assets to final distribution to the heirs
•Preparing probate court documents, scheduling hearing dates to open and close the estates
•Monitoring deadlines of key dates and by working with Calendar Court Services to provide e-mail reminders of upcoming deadlines
•Working with clients and their advisers to obtain asset information and other documentation necessary to prepare estate tax returns
•Preparing federal estate tax returns and appropriate state estate tax returns
•Maintaining estate administration files and having a complete set of the correspondence, memos and administrative documents
•Maintaining estate asset lists with dates of death values
•Assisting with the preparation of any documentation necessary for transferring assets
•Working with real estate and corporate specialists when assets need transfer documents
•Preparing documentation relating to organizing private foundations as well as preparing annual meeting minutes and annual reports as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree/paralegal certificate or equivalent experience with 5+ years’ experience in trusts & estates/estate planning practice, this would include estate administration, gift tax returns, estate tax returns, asset transfers, and working with private foundations. Additional requirements include: ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team based environment, excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to work overtime is required.
