A mid-town law firm is seeking an Accounting Supervisor
Primary Responsibilities
• Supervises New York office accounting department (currently two members in addition to Supervisor)
• Supports and works with Director of Administration to facilitate payroll, benefits and client administration
• Ensures day-to-day department activities are completed and up to date
• Stays proficient in all department operations; provides coverage for vacation and other temporary absences
• Fosters a strong sense of teamwork and staff morale within department
• Completes evaluations and conducts staff performance appraisals at year end
• Plans and prepares working papers and analysis for annual internal audit; coordinates with audit personnel during audit
• Provides information to external accountants for preparation of 1065, K-1 and other annual tax filings
• Prepares quarterly tax filings including UBT, Sales/Use, Rent/Occupancy, MCTMT
• Reconciles inter-company accounts on a quarterly basis
• Performs month-end close
• Prepares monthly financial summary
• Prepares weekly cash flow schedules
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations
• Maintains trust bank accounts and records in compliance with government regulations and firm policy
• Maintains monthly analyses of depreciation, amortization, prepaid expenses, accruals, partner capital accounts and payroll
• Prepares and posts manual journal entries on a timely basis
• Performs G/L analysis
• Provides other reports, schedules and analyses to management, as requested

Skills / Knowledge / Experience Required
• Experience in a supervisory role preferred
• Experience in a law firm preferred
• Knowledge and experience managing trust accounts for professionals
• Exposure to Aderant (CMS) accounting software a definite asset
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Formal education/training in accounting, including GAAP and accrual basis accounting, required (professional designation not required)
• Basic knowledge of payroll and payroll taxes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to deal with stressful or high pressure situations effectively
• Strong problem solving and client service skills
